In selecting a location to get married, Lauren and Drew chose to say “I do” at Maderas Golf Course on a gorgeous, sunny San Diego day. With pops of purple, personal details, and a delicious cupcake wedding “cake,” guests were able to celebrate their future life together as husband and wife, in style. Congratulations Lauren and Drew!

Lesley is quite possibly one of the sweetest Ivory Sparrow brides we’ve come across and her wedding in St. Helena, California, was absolutely stunning. The day began with brunch at French Blue with her bridesmaids, followed by hair and makeup (and Ivory Sparrow wraps, of course!). The ceremony and cocktail hour took place at Tra Vigne restaurant, with an intimate reception at Merryvale Winery afterward. City Lights Band played hit after hit and guests danced the night away in celebration of the happy couple. Congratulations Lesley and Jason!

Having dated for five years before Todd got down on his knee and proposed, a short engagement was quickly in the works once he popped the question. The ceremony location was an easy choice: aside from its beauty, Brittany’s parents had married at Wayfarer’s Chapel in Palos Verdes almost 40 years earlier. After they said ‘I do,’ guests hightailed it to La Venta Inn, an event space overlooking the Los Angeles coastline. With soft blush details and natural florals, guests danced the night away with the help of German feigling shots and an outdoor cigar lounge. Prost Brittany and Todd!

(Soon to be Huge) Honeymoon Destinations

Let’s face it: we’re about 150 years past being able to discover any uncharted territory on planet earth. Still, there are plenty of destinations that are off the beaten path (at least the path of many tourists). Here are a few favorite possible honeymoon spots that have yet to become the next Hawaii (but are dangerously close to becoming hot spots!).

Barbados

BarbadosThough surrounded by islands that are frequently visited, Barbados has shockingly remained somewhat quiet on the tourist front. While some resorts are exorbitant, there are deals to be found, and their beaches are the perfect place to unwind after the hubbub of your wedding.

Belize

BelizeFor travelers looking to unwind and explore, Belize offers the beaches AND jungle. With the second largest barrier reef in the world and more than 1,000 mangrove/sandy cays, snorkeling and diving opportunities are many, and white sandy beaches are dotted with hammocks for pure relaxation.

Croatia

Plitvice WaterfallsProbably the destination on this list most likely to become a tourist haven first, visiting Croatia right before or after high season (summer) is your best bet. Whether you’re in the mood to wine taste in the Istrian countryside, sunbathe and swim on the island of Hvar, walk the city walls of Dubrovnik, or take in the immense beauty of Plitvice National Park (pictured), this country will not disappoint.

Marshall Islands

Beautiful corals in shallow reef Marshall Islands Majuro AtollThe Marshall Islands is the 5th least visited country on earth due to the fact that it’s difficult to get there (United is the only airline that flies, with flights from Honolulu and Guam, and the prices are ridiculously high). However, if you’re willing to splurge on the plane ticket, paradise awaits. Some of the best diving, fishing and snorkeling can be found here, as can friendly locals and unadulterated beaches.

Sao Tome and Principe

Sao Tome and PrincipeThis is another destination that is not easy to get to (quite possibly the most difficult, actually). If, you and your loved one have a plethora of patience, however, it might be just the ticket. Gorgeous green mountains for hiking, amazing clear water beaches and practically no one around – you’ll feel like you’re living in your very own Blue Lagoon.

Ivory Sparrow Weddings: Annaleis and Corey

We love weddings and we love our Ivory Sparrow brides! If you and your girls have worn our wraps, robes or flip flops, send us your wedding photos. We’ll feature them in all their lovely, unique glory (and make sure to include a couple snapshots of you donning your special Ivory Sparrow frocks)! Please email them to elizabeth@ivorysparrow.com.

The day Annaleis said, “I do,” to Corey was gloriously sunny and warm. Having known one another for more than a decade, their friendship deepened into love. With the ceremony and reception at Villa de Amore in Temecula, the bride selected purple hued wild flowers, vintage glass and classic books to infuse the event with a relaxed and elegant vibe. For a bit of fun, each table of guests was welcomed to the buffet by listening for songs that were special to the couple. At the end of the night, all their friends and family left happy in knowing how perfect they are for one another. Congratulations Annaleis and Corey!

Bachelorette Party Alternatives: Napa and San Francisco

At Ivory Sparrow, we understand the importance of a phenomenal bachelorette party. Big or small, it’s a great way for the female friends and family members of the bride to connect before her wedding (and it’s also an awesome time to boogie down and work off some of those pre-wedding jitters!). While Las Vegas is typically thought of as the “go-to” destination for bachelors and bachelorettes, it can be fun to switch it up and seek out debauchery elsewhere. In our Bachelorette Alternatives feature, we’ll be showcasing some fun locations where you, your bridesmaids, your best buds (you name it), can kick back, raise a glass and celebrate YOU! If you would like to share your alternative bachelorette party location, email Elizabeth at elizabeth@ivorysparrow.com.

Ahhh, San Francisco and the Napa Valley… two hours away from one another, but seemingly worlds apart! A bachelorette party split between these northern California gems is the recipe for absolute success: it’s equal parts wine tasting, delicious food, phenomenal sight-seeing and, if you’re lucky, a well known club or two. So, let’s get to it!

The Napa/San Francisco bachelorette party has to be a three day affair because it is too difficult to travel, get your bearings AND still be able to do all that you want to do. We suggest you fly into San Francisco Thursday night and if there are enough of you, rent a house (!), wine taste Friday, enjoy San Francisco Saturday, head home Sunday. Voila!

Day 1: Wine Tasting Recommendations

If you’ll be traveling from the city into the valley, we highly recommend you hire a limo, a bus or van with a driver to escort you from place to place. It’s clearly the safest way to not drink and drive. For great rates and amazing service, try Royal Limo and ask for Nizar.

slider1Start your tasting in Calistoga at Castello de Amarosa and splurge on the tour and tasting… it’s worth it! The building is modeled after an Italian castle and the first seven years of construction were all on the barrel rooms underneath the ground. While you’re enjoying yourselves, have your driver pick up your already ordered lunch from Palisades Deli Café (you can’t go wrong with the Chicken Caesar or the Valley Veggie sandwich).

After the castle, head down the 29 toward St. Supery Winery and taste in one of their newly remodeled private rooms whose walls sport unique, colorful art.

tasting1And finally, head to your last tasting of the day (three might not seem like a ton, but trust us, it’s the perfect number. Your head will thank you the next day!). If you’re looking for a memorable building, Francis Ford Coppola Winery is filled with memorabilia from his films like The Godfather and Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and has a decent tasting selection. For a more humble building, but a more personable tasting, try Napa Valley Wine Company.

movie_galleryBy the time you arrive in San Francisco, it will be the early evening. Grab a bottle of wine (or three), order some Za Pizza and if you have games planned or are planning on showering the bride with (possibly naughty) gifts, this is the perfect time.

The next day is bride’s choice. Does she want to get a great breakfast or lunch? Try Tartine! Does she feel like doing something that is classically San Francisco? Head to the Ferry Building, then grab a pedicab to the wharf and Ghiradelli Square! Does she need some R&R? Head to Golden Gate Park with a picnic in tow! In this city, the options are endless.

Stow_Lake_Bridge_Golden_Gate_ParkBe back by mid-afternoon to get ready for the evening’s festivities. Andalu is a great place for a large group because you can have a prix fixe tasting menu and two hours of all you can drink beer or sangria- they will even print out personalized menus for you! Try to push dinner on the later side so that meandering to the clubs doesn’t leave you waiting too long.

For an evening of dancing (and possibly even more toasting), we recommend two clubs which are conveniently right next to each other. Start at Slide, a Prohibitionesque speakeasy where patrons can literally ride a slide into the underground bar (you have to be wearing pants though and we’ll warn you- it’s a doozy!). After indulging for a couple hours, head over to Ruby Skye, a true European-style dance club that has different DJs mixing every weekend.

After working your dancing shoes over well, head home… and don’t be surprised if the morning sun is shining through your windows sooner than you think it should! Before departing and saying your fond farewells, enjoy a latté and brunch at Outerlands.

Outerlands Levain BreadMake sure to take a loaf of their freshly baked levain home with you… it will make you miss the city (and your girls) the second you leave.
